Signature Moments
The Iceman — 63 Points
On the final day of the 1978 season, Gervin needed 58 points to overtake David Thompson for the scoring title. Thompson had dropped 73 that afternoon. Gervin scored 63 in the evening game — including 33 in a single quarter — to win the scoring title. The most dramatic scoring duel in NBA history.
David Thompson scored 73 points. Gervin answered with 63 that same night to steal the scoring title. Two of the greatest performances in NBA history, on the same day.
The Finger Roll — The Signature Move
Gervin's finger roll was the most beautiful shot in basketball. He'd glide to the basket, extend his arm, and roll the ball off his fingertips with impossible touch. Defenders couldn't block it because his release point was at the apex of his jump, above everyone.
The prettiest shot in basketball history. Gervin made scoring look effortless, like the ball was on a string attached to the rim.
