In Their Own Words
“ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!”
— Kevin Garnett, screaming into a camera moments after winning the 2008 NBA Championship
Garnett had spent 12 years in Minnesota without winning a playoff series, let alone a championship. After being traded to Boston and winning the title with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, his raw emotion captured a decade of frustration released in a single scream.
Signature Moments
"Anything Is Possible!" — 2008 Championship
After 12 years in Minnesota without a ring, KG was traded to Boston. In his first season, the Celtics won the championship, beating the Lakers by 39 points in Game 6. As confetti fell, KG screamed into a camera: "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!" His eyes were wild. It remains the most raw, emotional championship reaction in NBA history.
Twelve years of losing. One trade. One season. One scream. KG proved that loyalty doesn't have to mean suffering forever.
The Intensity — KG's Pregame Ritual
KG headbutted the basket stanchion before games. He screamed at teammates. He talked trash to opponents' families. He once made a rookie cry during practice. His intensity was so extreme it bordered on madness — but it produced 15 All-Star selections and one of the greatest defensive careers ever.
Nobody played with more ferocity. He turned basketball into a blood sport through sheer emotional intensity.
2004 MVP — Carrying Minnesota
KG averaged 24.2/13.9/5.0 and won MVP while carrying the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals for the first (and only) time in franchise history. He did it with Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell as his sidekicks. He willed a small-market team to relevance.
He dragged Minnesota — Minnesota — to the Conference Finals. That's the basketball equivalent of moving a mountain.
