Signature Moments

The EuroStep — Inventing a Move

2000s·vs vs Entire NBA

Ginobili brought the Euro step to the NBA and made it a staple move for every guard in the league. He would drive, take a step one direction, then shift his entire body the other way while finishing at the rim. It was legal, it was unstoppable, and it was art.

He imported a move from European basketball and changed how Americans attack the rim. Every guard who Euro steps today is playing Manu's game.

2004 Olympic Gold — Beating Team USA

August 28, 2004·vs vs Team USA (Athens Olympics)

Ginobili led Argentina to the 2004 Olympic gold medal, beating Team USA along the way. He outplayed NBA All-Stars representing the US and proved that international basketball could compete at the highest level. It remains Team USA's most embarrassing Olympic moment.

He beat Team USA at the Olympics. With Argentina. Manu wasn't just the best international player of his era — he was one of the best players, period.

Four Championships — The Greatest Sixth Man

1999-2014·vs vs NBA

Ginobili won four championships with the Spurs while coming off the bench for most of his career. He could have started on any team in the league, but Pop kept him as the sixth man. Manu accepted the role and became the most impactful bench player in NBA history.

He chose to be the sixth man when he could have been a franchise player elsewhere. Four rings say it was the right call.
