Signature Moments
The Finger — Amputating His Pinky
Lott crushed his pinky finger so badly it needed surgery. Instead of sitting out, he told the doctors to amputate the tip of his finger so he could keep playing. He chose amputation over rehab. He chose football over a finger. That's Ronnie Lott.
He amputated part of his finger to keep playing. Not because he had to — because rehab would have cost him games. The toughest human to ever play football.
Four Super Bowl Rings — The Hardest Hitter
Lott won four Super Bowls with the 49ers and was the most devastating hitter in NFL history. Receivers would hear footsteps when Lott was on the field. He knocked people unconscious with legal hits. He played safety like a linebacker — 200 pounds of pure violence.
Four rings. Receivers literally changed their routes when they saw him. Ronnie Lott was the reason wide receivers started wearing extra padding.
