Signature Moments

Super Bowl XXIX — 6 Touchdown Passes

January 29, 1995·vs vs San Diego Chargers

Young threw 6 touchdown passes in Super Bowl XXIX — still a record — and won MVP. He sprinted to the sideline screaming "Someone get the monkey off my back!" He'd spent years as Montana's backup, hearing he'd never be as good. This was his answer.

Six touchdowns in a Super Bowl. The record still stands. He was no longer Montana's backup — he was Steve Young, Super Bowl champion and MVP.

The Run — 1998 vs Vikings

October 18, 1998·vs vs Minnesota Vikings

Young scrambled for a 49-yard touchdown run, juking and spinning through the Vikings defense. It was vintage Young — the most dangerous running quarterback of his era, combining Brady-level passing with Lamar Jackson-level mobility before anyone thought that was possible.

A quarterback running 49 yards for a touchdown against an elite defense. Young was the original dual-threat QB, decades before the term existed.

Highest Career Passer Rating — The Efficient GOAT

1985-1999·vs vs Entire NFL

Young retired with the highest career passer rating in NFL history (96.8 at the time). He led the league in passer rating six times. He was the most efficient quarterback of his generation — every throw was precise, every decision was calculated.

The highest passer rating in history when he retired. Not the flashiest, not the loudest — just the most efficient quarterback who ever played.
