Signature Moments
The Greatest Tight End — 1,325 Receptions
Gonzalez retired with 1,325 receptions — the most by a tight end in NFL history. He made 14 Pro Bowls. He was a basketball player at Cal who became the most productive pass-catcher at his position, redefining what a tight end could be.
He turned the tight end from a blocking position into a receiving weapon. Every pass-catching tight end in today's NFL — Kelce, Kittle, Andrews — is playing Tony Gonzalez's game.
The One That Got Away — No Super Bowl
Gonzalez played 17 seasons and never reached a Super Bowl. He was traded from Kansas City to Atlanta hoping for a ring. He came agonizingly close in 2012 when the Falcons blew a 17-point lead in the NFC Championship. The greatest tight end ever retired without a ring.
Seventeen years. Zero Super Bowls. The best tight end in history never got to play for the championship. Sometimes greatness isn't enough.
